Enhanced Language Training for Healthcare Professionals – ELT
►Registration is underway for the next session of ELT for Internationally-Trained Healthcare Professionals. Session 2 will run from July 5 – September 10.
The YMCA of Windsor and Essex County provides Enhanced Language Training for Healthcare Professionals. This program is a 10-week English language course designed to improve speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for internationally trained newcomers in the healthcare field.
Our 10-week ELT course offers:
- Evening language training classes.
- Fine-tuning communication skills (including cultural competency and "bedside manner")
- Guest speakers and special guests from the healthcare community.
- Mentor opportunities.
- Access to Job Search workshops
- No-cost childminding services for children between the ages of 6 months and 10 years.
- computer and typing skills
- Job Search Workshop for healthcare professionals
- opportunities for networking and volunteering to gain Canadian experience
- 160 hour placement
Students will gain valuable Canadian experience during an 8-week work placement upon successful completion of the in-class language component.

We are happy to point out that the language training now includes:
- Red Cross CPR and First Aid training- a 3-year certificate at no cost!
- TOEFL IBT preparation
- Bus tickets for those who qualify
